Setting the Rules for AI Agents in a Gosport Business: Draft, Send or Never (Plus a 2-Hour Session)
Before you hand a job to an AI agent, decide what it may draft, what it may send and what stays with you. Here is how, and a two-hour one-to-one session to do it on your own work.
Give each job one of three settings: draft only, so you approve before anything goes out; send within limits, for messages that are always the same; or never, for prices, refunds, complaints and anything about health, safety or the law. Dean Keating, who publishes Gosport Guide, runs a 2-hour one-to-one session (£300 including VAT, on Zoom, or in person in Hampshire or Surrey) where you write those rules on your own work.
The question that matters is "who approves it?"
Most advice about AI for small firms starts with what the tools can do. For an owner it is more useful to start with what you will let them do on their own. An AI agent is an AI tool given one job, the rules for doing it and access to the tools it needs. It does the repeat part. A person sets the rules and approves what matters. Get that split right and the rest is detail.
This guide uses the biggest categories on Gosport Guide to show how the split can look: shops, restaurants, hairdressers, car repairs, estate agents, takeaways, cafés and builders each list a good number of businesses, from Gosport town to Lee-on-the-Solent, Alverstoke and Bridgemary. Your business is different from any example here, so treat these as prompts.
Three settings for any job
For every job you might hand over, decide which of three settings applies.
1. Draft only. The agent writes it and you read it before anything goes out. This is the right start for almost everything. A garage might have the agent draft a reply to someone asking how soon a car can be looked at. A builder might have it draft the follow-up to a quote that has gone quiet. You send it, so nothing leaves in your name unseen.
2. Send within limits. For a message that is always the same, you may let the agent send it itself, inside rules you write. A takeaway or café might allow an automatic reply saying when the kitchen opens. An estate agent might allow a standard acknowledgement that a viewing request has been received. The rules say what it may say and what it must pass to you.
3. Never. Some things stay with a person every time: a price, a refund, a complaint, anything about someone's health, safety or legal position. A florist's agent can draft a reply about delivery dates, but a refund is your call.
Writing these three lists for your own business is most of the work. It is also why a general article only gets you so far.
Jobs worth trying first
Look for repeat work you can describe in a sentence: the first reply to an enquiry, a reminder, a quote follow-up, a weekly summary of what came in, an invoice chaser, a social post from your own notes. Pick two or three. Two that work are worth more than ten you never finished.
From the publisher: a 2-hour one-to-one session
This section comes from Dean Keating, who publishes Gosport Guide and runs the session. It is his own offer and is labelled as one.
What it is: two hours, one to one. You choose the two or three jobs eating your week. Together you set up AI agents on them live, in Claude or ChatGPT, using your own work, and you leave with your own setup and prompts saved in your account. It is not slides, not a course and not a chatbot. The three settings above are exactly the rules you will write.
Where: on Zoom from anywhere in the UK, which suits a Gosport owner who cannot leave the premises, or in person. Dean's office is in Waterlooville, and he can come to your business in Hampshire or Surrey. He is based in Horndean, Hampshire, not in Gosport.
Price: £300 including VAT, for business use, so you are buying as a business.
His background: he runs his web agency and his network of local directory websites on AI agents, with more than 100 defined agent roles, and he works to the same rule: the AI does the repeat work, a person sets the rules and approves what matters. He does not promise a particular saving of time or money, because that depends on your business.
The booking page shows the next available date and takes payment through Stripe; Dean confirms the time with you afterwards. You can read more about Dean Keating on this site.
